All SARA crew are trained in first aid. A number of members are further qualified as Advanced First Aiders, qualified as ‘Remote Rescue Medical Technicians’ (RRMT), formerly known as ‘Casualty Care’, under Mountain Rescue England & Wales governance. This allows them to use a small range of medication in a remote environment, as well as providing some extended skills.
In addition the team members include professional doctors, paramedics, nurses and Community First Responders.
First aid equipment is carried during all searches and in all SARA vehicles. Depending on the nature of the operation, equipment such as Oxygen and spinal stabilization vacuum mattresses may be taken into the field.
