Incidents

We are tasked by the emergency services, including HM Coastguaard, Fire & Rescue, Police and the Ambulance Services. Our teams are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Below are the callouts that we have attended.

  • Berkeley 05-04-20

    Land search teams from SARA Tewkesbury and Beachley were called out to Berkeley shortly after 7pm. They were tasked with supporting Gloucestershire Constabulary with a missing person search, and Gloucestershire Cave Rescue Group also provided support.
    Thankfully the missing person was located safe and well by one of the SARA search teams, and the volunteers were stood down from the scene at 11.15pm.

  • M48 Bridge 02-04-20

    SARA Beachley lifeboat were called out shortly before 4pm to support the Police with an incident on the M48 bridge. However they were stood down within 15 minutes and no launch was required.

  • Newport Usk Search 29-03-20 (#51)

    SARA Newport lifeboat crew were called out at 1830, to support Gwent Police with a search on the River Usk. SARA Lifeboat 14 ‘The Maureen Easton’ was launched, and was joined by colleagues from SARA Beachley with SARA Lifeboat 3 ‘Swift and Bold’.
    The boats were stood down at 2100 with nothing having been found.
    We are proud to remain on call for emergencies, along with all our colleagues in the emergency services and other lifeboat organisations.

  • Beachley Yacht Rescue 21-03-20

    The Beachley lifeboat crew were called out around 11am.
    A yacht had suffered engine failure and called for assistance with a ‘Mayday’ message. SARA Lifeboat 1, with her twin 150hp engines, was able to tow her back to Beachley, though it took two hours going against the outgoing 8 knot tide! SARA Lifeboat 3 was also launched to provide support.

  • Newport 19-03-20

    The SARA Newport Team, with SARA Lifeboat 14, were tasked to assist Gwent Police with an incident in Newport City centre.
    This was a multi-agency response, which resulted in a good outcome. The team was stood down with everyone safe and well.

  • River Wye Kayak 16-03-20

    Beachley’s SARA Lifeboat 3 was launched just after 11am, to reports of an upturned kayak on the River Wye. The kayak was recovered back to Beachley and handed over to Chepstow Coastguard.
    Congratulations to new helm Jerry on a first shout well executed!

  • Caldicot and Chepstow 07-03-20 (#46 & 47)

    SARA Beachley paged at 1530, to reports of a dingy adrift just off Caldicot Flats. SARA Lifeboat 1 ‘The Jim Hewitt’ was launched to what turned out to be a large life raft. This was recovered and handed over to Chepstow Coastguard who will now make enquires to the owner.
    Whilst this incident was in progress SARA Lifeboat 3 ‘Swift and Bold’ was launched to a 10ft dingy adrift on the River Wye. The crew towed this back to Chepstow.

  • Newnham 06-03-20 (#45)

    SARA Sharpness were paged at 1130 to a reported ‘crashed jetpack’ on a sandbank near Newnham. Both boat and Swiftwater rescue crew were deployed to cover the various possibilities we may have found. Upon arrival on scene crew found the pilot of a paramotor had managed to successfully get back into the air and land safely.
    Crews were stood down after suitable advice was given.

  • Ludlow 05-03-20

    The SARA Wyre Forest land search team was called out around 10pm by Hereford and Worcester Fire Service to assist West Mercia Police with a missing person search in the Ludlow area.
    Shortly after our crew were deployed to search, the gentleman was located by another team and our MREW Cas Carers were deployed to the scene to assess the gentleman while awaiting the arrival of the ambulance service.
    Then with the help of Shropshire Fire Service, Hereford and Worcester Fire Service, West Mercia Police, West Midlands Ambulance service and the Forestry Commission, the gentleman was extracted to the waiting ambulance before being taken to hospital. This multi-agency approach lead to a highly successful outcome. Our best wishes to the gentleman on a speedy recovery.
    SARA Tewkesbury was also called out to assist but was stood down en route.

  • Tewkesbury 05-03-20

    A flood team from SARA Tewkesbury was deployed in Tewkesbury around 1530, to provide food and medical supplies to local properties cut off by flood water.
