Incidents

We are tasked by the emergency services, including HM Coastguaard, Fire & Rescue, Police and the Ambulance Services. Our teams are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Below are the callouts that we have attended.

  • #73: River Severn Dinghy / Balloons 16-06-20

SARA Lifeboat 3 was launched just after 1030, to reports of a dinghy in the area between the two motorway bridges, drifting downstream on the outgoing tide; RNLI Portishead also launched to approach the area from the other direction.
The ‘dinghy’ turned out to be a large cluster of helium balloons, plus some stragglers. These were all collected and, following a search of the area in case there was something else, handed over to Chepstow Coastguard back at Beachley.
Many thanks to all who responded so promptly.

  • #72: River Severn yacht (Saniger Sands) 13-06-20

SARA Lifeboat 1 was launched around 3pm, to attend to a yacht aground in the River Severn. Supported by Chepstow Coastguard on shore, the crew approached the yacht, which was on Saniger Sands near Cone Pill, south of Lydney. They were able to ascertain that everyone on board was ok, and that they had sufficient provisions for a long evening – the next high tide being a little after 2am.
The crew advised the yacht to contact the coastguard if they encountered difficulties in re-floating, and then returned to Beachley to turn the lifeboat around ready for the next call.
SARA Sharpness also launched SARA Lifeboat 4 and Rescue 12 to assist if required, but on this occasion did not need to get involved.
Chepstow Coastguard returned to the land side late in the evening, and verified that the yacht was able to reflect satisfactorily.
